O.C.E.A.N., Inc. Board of Trustees and agency staff, fellow NJ Community Action Agencies, Family & Friends, NJ Congressmen Chris Smith and Andy Kim, Law Enforcement, Community Subgrantees and many other community partners celebrated the retirement of Channell Wilkins at a special luncheon (BBQ) held today at Veterans Park in Berkeley Township, NJ.
Channell was recognized for his years of service at O.C.E.A.N., Inc. and the commitment he has provided to the residents in the community throughout his years of service.
Channell Wilkins has been in public service most of his career and has also worked in the private and non-profit sectors. He worked at the Municipal, County and State levels before going to the Federal government to run the Office of Head Start as the Associate Commissioner. His principle deliverables have always been to improve the outcomes for the population (s) served while ensuring the most cost effective and technology driven solutions are used by the organization. This balance of service assisting those in need kept him thriving for new innovations and ways to solve problems.
While at O.C.E.A.N., Inc. he was also active in many civic and professional organizations. As President/CEO he supported staff, provided leadership to frontline staff that interfaced with the public on a daily basis and reflected the mission and nature of the organization throughout the community.
Through the leadership of Channell Wilkins, O.C.E.A.N., Inc. President/CEO he led programs including Head Start/Early Head Start, Home Energy, Direct Services, Weatherization, Affordable Housing, Housing Counseling, Credit Union Services and Intensive Case Management Services as designated by required poverty levels.
Channell’s retirement is a milestone that signifies the peak of a rewarding career and the beginning of a new chapter in life – one we hope is even more rewarding and fruitful.
