Making a positive impact together for Ocean County NJ Point in Time Count, helping homeless families, youth, veterans, and individuals

Updated: Feb 1

Ocean Inc. Direct Services staff and many other local organizations helped prepare bags yesterday at South Jersey Legal Services in preparation for the Point in Time Homeless Count outreach events scheduled for Wednesday, January 24, 2024 throughout Ocean County, NJ.

Representatives from the following agencies assisted and/or donated to yesterday's event including:

O.C.E.A.N., Inc. (Community Action Agency)

Ocean County Division of Child Protection and Permanency

Family Promise

South Jersey Legal Services, Inc.

The donated items including blankets, socks, hygiene products for women/men, laundry detergent and much more will be used for the annual Point-in-Time Count of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. As required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the count takes place during the last 10 days of January and identifies those persons residing in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs, safe havens and living on the streets or other locations not fit for dwelling.

The count is coordinated on a single day across the state allowing for comparable data across all communities from year to year. Volunteers will ask those experiencing homelessness in shelters and in un-sheltered locations where they spent the night.
