Yesterday was 'National Night Out,' an annual campaign that promotes police-community relations by bringing communities together under positive circumstances. Millions of people take part in 'National Night Out' across thousands of towns in all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.
Although many Ocean County, and other NJ 'National Night Out' events were rescheduled last night due to inclement weather, the Little Egg Harbor NNO was one of few who were able to carry on with the event. This would explain the turnout of over 300 families including those from surrounding communities. The parking situation extended from the LEH Sports Complex up to half a mile to Rt. 539.
Throughout the evening, O.C.E.A.N., Inc. staff provided assistance to 56 families. Participants received giveaway bags of items consisting of hygiene products for women/men, laundry detergent, toothpaste/brushes and other comfort items. The event coordinated by the Little Egg Harbor Police Department and the LEH Chamber of Commerce included many other community organizations who provided outreach and giveaways. There were also K-9 demonstrations and additional law enforcement support from the Ocean County Sheriff's Department and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
Other events included safety demonstrations, fly overs from the U.S. Coast Guard helicopters, visits from emergency personnel with equipment, and vintage/race car displays. Both law enforcement and families learned more about how to work together to keep the community safe. Thank you to LEH Law enforcement and the LEH Chamber of Commerce for coordinating this well-planned event.
