The Ocean County Health Department invited local businesses and organizations to a luncheon at the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen in Toms River, NJ that included an important focus group discussion on overdose & substance use throughout the community.
On average, Ocean County experiences five (5) fatal and non-fatal overdoses per week. These overdoses are not limited to a home or residence and often occur in public lots, business restrooms and community spaces. The Mitigation team who monitors overdose trends and spikes throughout Ocean County discussed the swift support to not only the individuals but to community members, employees, business owners and organizations impacted and continue to work to reduce future risk.
“As a result of the OCHD focus group, we were able to gain valuable information from the Mitigation Overdose Specialist and other presenters on how to educate and train parents and employees to save a client or colleagues life” said Laura Coccia, Ocean Inc. Head Start/Early Head Start Health Manager. “We were also able to coordinate future Narcan trainings for agency staff and Head Start/Early Head Start parents through the Ocean County Health Department.”
